What does being thrifty get you?

Well, it got me a new house!!! We have made saving money on our essentials a way of life, and now I am able to afford a house long before I thought we would. I'm excited!! I'm NERVOUS, but excited. I have to tell you, shopping the way I do has really paid off for me and my family.

So, I didn't do a lot of shopping this week because we have been running around looking at houses, but I did hit Walmart. I got my Seapak shrimp poppers for .58, using the $1 peelies.
I also got Mahatma yellow rice for .26, using a .50 coupon.
Christmas was 90% off and though there wasn't a lot left, I was able to get snow blankets for my Christmas village for .30 each. I have always been to cheap to buy them and have been using white sheets for years. I also bought some light clips to hang lights outside. My husband never would hang them before, claiming no one would see them way out here in the boondocks, but now I will be living in town, so I will be wanting my lights.

General Mills

As I mentioned before, General Mills, through MyBlogSpark, sent me some VIP coupons for General Mills cereals. The reason they did this was to promote the fact that they are further reducing sugar in cereal marketed to our children. They have been reducing the sugar for a while, but now it is being reduced to single digit grams per serving! AND they are increasing more key nutrients, including calcium, Vitamin D, and whole grains.

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and kids who eat cereal in the mornings are consuming more fiber, and less fat and cholesterol daily.

You can get more information from General Mills here, and get a coupon for $1 off here, also provided to you from General Mills through MyBlog Spark.

I am all for things that get my kids to eat healthier. They love Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Trix, and I know that they are eating something good for them! Enjoy your coupon and have a great shopping day!

Also, there was also a coupon for OIKOS greek yogurt (it's in the deli/organic) section for $1 off a couple of weeks ago and they are also on sale at Kroger for $1!

I also found in the meat mark downs a variety pack..it had 3 steaks, some stew meat, and a HUGE roast for $9.88!!! We have grilled out, had beef stew, and the roast is in the freezer for a later date.

Snow day!!

It's a snow day in Kentucky....which means that yesterday the store was NUTS!!! I went to Walmart and Kroger and I am pretty sure everyone in town was at one of the 2.

I didn't get too much at Walmart. My sister was with me and she's not a shopper. :( I did pick up some popcorn shrimp (Seapak) for .58 each using the $1 peelies. I also got Special K cereal using the BOGOF coupon they had up on the site a few weeks ago. $3 for 2 was the final price.

Kroger was crazy. Every register was open, and with a line. A LONG line.
I got a large free box of Cheerios using one of the coupons that General Mills sent me through MyBlogSpark.

Glade candle tins were marked down to $1.74 (from Christmas, I guess) and I had coupons to get a free pack of refills wyb 1. They were $3!!! So, for $1.74 I could get a candle with tin and pack of refills. AWESOME!

Kroger's Everyday Living fabric softener in one scent was on closeout for $1.91

Suave for Kids in Orange was on closeout for $1.41 and I had a .25 coupon, making it .91

I also picked up on some Ronzoni Smart Taste pasta for $1.50 each and had coupons for $1/2

I am almost ready for ANOTHER Amazon gift certificate from Swagbucks. If you haven't signed up, you can make them your default search engine and win Swagbucks randomly from searching, which you can trade for gift certificates or prizes. I trade mine for Amazon GC's, and have earned quite a bit so far. Check them out!

If you have any questions about getting started in couponing (for my new people) you can check out my first few blog posts. You will find quite a bit of information there and if you have any questions, feel free to email me at dimestretchermom@gmail.com

I was also asked if I make a menu plan. Yes and no. There are certain things we have every week or 2, so I guess that's planned. As far as getting sales ads and making menus, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. The reason why is, I keep a stockpile. If something is on sale for a fantastic price, I buy several. For this reason, I can pretty much choose what I want to eat from day to day. I know there is extra of this or that it my pantry or freezer.

I also make freezer meals some. If I am going to make a cassrole or lasagna or something similar, it's just as easy to make 2 as it is 1. Freeze the second one, and you have a meal for a future night.

A great book to get you started is Don't Panic, Dinner's in the Freezer! There is even a follow up! There are some fantastic recipes in those books, and they aren't a once a month cooking type of thing, which is too overwhelming for me. They are more like recipes that you can eat one tonight and freeze the extras. It multiplies everything for you and even tells you the best way to go about freezing them.

I also make large batches of mashed potatoes, etc and freeze them in freezer bags. You can freeze them flat and it will leave a lot more room in your freezer.

I hope you have a great shopping day!

Happy New Year!!!!

Here's to a great 2010!!!

We have been super busy in the dimestretcher household. Things are finally starting to slow down and get back to normal...I hope. :) I wish you all a very and blessed Happy New Year.

Be SURE this weekend to get extra papers. This is going to be a HUGE coupon weekend!! The first one in January is usually the biggest coupon weekend of the year!!!

Walmart has been running Christmas items 50% off. I am scouting out what I want when it goes to 75%! They even have lots of toys on clearance. I got the Playskool Dance Cam for my niece to set back for her..it was normally $49.96, they had it marked to $24 something, and I had a $10 coupon from when coupons.com had them. They may still be there, I haven't checked yet. $14 and change for a $50 toy!! They had lots cheap, so take a look.

Kroger is running a promo to spend $25 in certain P&G products and get $5 off your order. If you work it right, this could be a good promo. The list of participating ones is at the store. Not all P&G products are in on it this time. CoverGirl is, and I still have lots of $3 coupons from the Max Factor products. (RIP, Max Factor)

MyBlogSpark sent me some coupons for FREE cereal from General Mills. They are reducing sugar in cereal marketed to kids. AND they are offering YOU a coupon! Here is the information they sent. (Sorry if you are getting this twice. I upgraded to Windows 7 and for some reason can't paste. I am working on it.) Here is a link to your coupon.

I am going to work on learning what I'm doing with Windows 7 and I will see you all tomorrow! Have a great shopping day!
